Resplendent Ceylon — Tea Trails

The world's first tea bungalow resort — five restored colonial planter residences at 1,250 m near Hatton. A gas-fired Rinnai system replaced an under-performing electric spa heater, halving heat-up times and cutting operating costs by 30%.

The Brief

Rinnai has supplied hot water systems for Resplendent Ceylon projects for many years. We were asked to design an alternative to the existing electric Jacuzzi heating system, which was not coping with demand — especially in winter. Electricity costs were rising, heat-up times for the spa were too long, and target temperatures were rarely met.

Approved Solution

Rinnai Gas Tankless + Titanium Tube-in-Tube Heat Exchanger

Rinnai worked with the client to implement a gas-fired system incorporating Rinnai gas tankless technology, a titanium tube-in-tube heat exchanger and a quality control system.

The system installed at Dunkeld Bungalow halved Jacuzzi heat-up times, even in winter, and produced a 30% saving on operational costs. Crucially, target temperature is now reliably maintained on the coldest days. Following that success, the system has been adopted across other bungalows.

Benefits
  • Jacuzzi heat-up time halved — even in central highlands winter
  • 30% reduction in spa operational costs
  • Target spa temperature reliably maintained year-round
  • Titanium tube-in-tube exchanger handles spa water chemistry
  • Proven template now rolled out across additional Tea Trails bungalows
